This Is My Story
David Shawn Cook, better known as the former front man and songwriter of the 80’s rock band “The Puppet Rulers,” had a tumultuous past that he openly shares with his fans. Hailing originally from Indiana he left to pursue a music career in Boston, MA, Cook was always drawn to music and spent much of his teenage years honing his craft.
He eventually co-formed “The Puppet Rulers” with a group of talented musicians, and the band quickly gained a following in the local music scene. They came very close to signing a record deal with Casablanca and CBS records, but the band was unwilling to give artistic control to the record companies. The band continued to make great strides in the local music scene and toured quite often in the early 80’s until the band split up later that same decade.
Whether blessing or curse (you decide), during The Puppet Ruler’s rise, Cook developed an addiction to alcohol that threatened to derail his career and his life after leaving the band. It wasn’t until he had a life experience he calls “The Precipice” that he fully turned to God and began his journey to recovery. His newfound faith became the driving force behind his music, and he started writing songs that reflected his spiritual journey.
Today, Cook is a well-respected Christian music artist, and his music has touched the lives of countless people. He uses his platform to spread the message of hope and redemption, and his story serves as a powerful testimony of God’s grace and transformative power.
